Call your Representatives and both Senators Obama and Durbin today and ask them to cosponsor the TRADE Act (H.R. 6180 in the House, and S. 3083 in the Senate).  Five Illinois Representatives have already signed on, including Reps. Schakowsky, Davis, Lipinski, Hare, and Jackson.  If your Representative has already signed on, please call and say thank you for his or her commitment to fair trade policies.  If your Representative has NOT yet signed on, please call and urge him or her to do so today.

Also, if you don't know who your Representative is go to http://www.congress.org/ and type in your zip code to find out.   When you call, ask to speak with the foreign policy aide. If he or she is unavailable, please leave the following message on his or her voicemail:

"My name is ­­ _______.  I live in ____(name of your neighborhood or town____).  I'm calling to ask that Rep/Sen ­­­________ cosponsor the TRADE Act (H.R. 6180 OR S. 3083), recently introduced by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Rep. Mike Michaud (D-Maine). This legislation sets forth in concrete, detailed terms a vision for good trade agreements in the future and criteria to help implement this year's campaign pledges to renegotiate existing failed pacts like NAFTA. It requires a review of existing trade pacts and submission of a plan by the president to fix these agreements - before new trade negotiations or congressional consideration of pending pacts. The TRADE Act also describes the key elements of a new trade negotiating and approval mechanism to replace Fast Track that would enhance Congress' role and ensure pacts meet the criteria described in the bill.   Can I count on Representative ________ to sign cosponsor this important bill in support of just and fair U.S. trade policies?  Please let me know.
