The Pedal for Peace Bike-a-thon is coordinated by the Chicago Religious Leadership Network on Latin America. All proceeds raised will be distributed among CRLN and the following organizations: Autonomous Tenants Union, Chicago-Cinquera Sister Cities, Chicago-Guatemala Partnership, Concern America, and La Voz de los de Abajo. This is the donation page for Concern America.
In the isolated and war-torn Chocó region of Colombia, Concern America’s (C/As) community-centered health and leadership program trains community members from rural Afro-Colombian and Indigenous communities to provide health care services to 20,000 people previously without access to such services. This innovative and successful model, known as Health Promoter Practitioners (HPPs), engages the most valuable resource in every village: the people themselves. With a depth of knowledge, skills, and ability to provide health care comparable to the work of nurse practitioners in the U.S, HPPs successfully meet 80% of the community’s health care needs.
Funds raised from CRLN’s 2018 bike-a-thon supported the training and accompaniment of life-saving Health Promoter Practitioners. This year the program will be purchasing and building its own Health Promoter Practitioner-run clinic training center and dormitories for course participants, a huge step for the program! Funds from CRLN’s 2019 bike-a-thon will help equip the new program center.
